La Roche Posay Lipikar AP+M and the importance of balancing the skin biome for Epidermolytic Ichthyosis
“From a personal perspective, this is a wonderful, thick and nourishing cream, and it’s suitable for babies from 2 weeks of age.”
Part 7 of 10 in our “Skincare Showcase Series” is dedicated to the healing powers of natural spring water from La Roche Posay in France. This brings me to our THIRD excellent emollient in our showcase series.
La Roche-Posay LIPIKAR AP+M BAUME is a truly superb emollient, and contains so many great ingredients for ichthyosis and other dry and very-dry skin conditions.
The main ingredient is always spring water, but they also add in nourishing yet breathable SHEA BUTTER and GLYCERIN, alongside NIACINAMIDE which is known to help restore the acid mantle and also helps to reduce inflammation and even out skin tone.
From a personal perspective, this is a wonderful, thick and nourishing cream, and it’s suitable for babies from 2 weeks of age.
I have also recently learned that this already super emollient is currently being rebranded with a NEW formula which includes those all important CERAMIDES which are lacking in all types of ichthyotic skin.
The new formula is called LIPIKAR AP+M TRIPLE REPAIR and is currently available in the US, but not yet across Europe, but I honestly can’t wait to try it!
The ONLY downside, is that it is NOT classed as a medical product, which means it is typically not available on prescription, and sadly, it’s not cheap.
In my daughter’s skincare routine, we add this to our mixture of emollients, and it really makes a difference. This wonderful thick and nourishing cream really adds longevity to the level of moisture in her skin, and means we don’t have to re-apply as often.
If you find that you’re having to re-apply emollients very often, please give LIPIKAR AP+M a try. You can mix it with other creams to make it last longer, or you can use the ingredients list as a reference when researching which emollient to try in your own country.
