Octenisan Antimicrobial Wash Lotion for Epidermolytic Ichthyosis
“A gentle antimicrobial used in the bath each day can help balance the skin biome and thereby reduces the risk of frequent skin infections in Epidemolytic Ichthyosis”
Part 2 of 10 in our “EI Skincare Showcase Series” we focus on maintaining a healthy skin biome.
In Epidermolytic Ichthyosis, one of our biggest challenges is managing skin infections. They can be frequent, and often recur, meaning months of pain, fear, and uncertainty. Skin infections are very painful, can spread extensively, and have even proven fatal on occasion.
Part of any good EI Skincare Routine is to include something to help PREVENT infections from starting in the first place.
There are many things we can do:
Minimise scale, thereby reducing the surface are in which bacteria and fungi can populate;
Eat a good diet with plenty of plant diversity;
Use emollients that allow the skin to breathe and nourish a healthy skin biome;
Use a gentle ANTI-MICROBIAL agent to help keep the skin biome in balance.
We have learned over the years that many skin issues are linked to an imbalance of microbes in the skin biome such as ITCH and eczema flares.
Mistakenly, bleach does NOT treat skin infections, instead it helps to restore the ACID MANTLE in the skin. This means it does help to PREVENT infections, but this comes at a cost of increased skin dryness and irritation.
A great solution to help prevent skin infections, by nurturing the skin biome, and proven to reduce itch and eczema flares is OCTENISAN WASH LOTION by Schülke.
This is a truly great product. It’s gentle on the skin, no irritating fragrance, and it helps prevent infections caused by a whole array of nasties, including MRSA.
In our family, we use a squirt of it in the bath everyday, and sometimes use as a soap on the intimate area if any odours arise. This keeps the skin happy, healthy, and odour-free. We do not use SOAP as this is far too drying for EI Skin. A squirt of Octenisan in the bath every day is all we’ve ever needed.
If you’ve never used Octenisan, please ask your Doctor about it. It’s a MEDICAL PRODUCT, so for many it’s available on prescription and reimbursable by health insurance. I’m certain you won’t look back!
