Using Skinnies WEB as a second skin for Epidermolytic Ichthyosis

“Skinnies WEB are more than just skincare garments for us, they are the things that brought JOY back into movement for our daughter!”

Part 9 of 10 in our “Skincare Showcase Series” is dedicated to SKINNIES WEB clothing from www.skinniesuk.com.

This fantastic company designs specialised clothing garments to help people affected with eczema, epidermolysis bullosa, ichthyosis, and more.

For our daughter, who has Epidermolytic Ichthyosis (EI) caused by a KRT10 pathogenic variant, Skinnies WEB help her in 4 main ways:

  1. They wet-wrap her skin, keeping her skin moist and comfortable for longer, and reducing the need to re-apply creams so often;

  2. They keep dressings in place without the need for bandages or adhesive dressings that would otherwise cause trauma to her fragile skin;

  3. They protect her from friction wounds caused by clothing seams, and reduce both the frequency and the depth of wounds from trips and falls;

  4. They reduce the frequency of skin infections by creating a protective barrier on the surface of her skin, especially important in the early years of school.

Skinnies WEB are designed to be skin tight and seamless, making them a literal ‘Second Skin’. They are incredibly breathable, and can go in the washer and the dryer, and are good for over 50 washes.

They ARE a medical device, and are therefore eligible on prescription or for reimbursement from medical insurance. Please ask your dermatologist at your next appointment.

Using Skinnies WEB from 12 months was a huge help for our family.

Before our daughter was able to weight-bear at 12 months we found trying to put them on caused trauma. Once she could stand and step into ruched-up leggings however, they became one of our DAILY ESSENTIALS.

If you’ve never tried these before, I really recommend them, just be sure to go up a size or two to make sure they fit correctly. Our daughter is age 6 years. and wears WEB size 11-14 years.

Skinnies WEB are more than just skincare garments for us, they are the things that brought JOY back into movement for our daughter!
